“But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.”
II Peter 2:1-3 NKJV
What is deception?
Deception is the act of making someone accept what is a lie as true or valid.
Deception, sadly, is very deceptive. It will sound very close to the truth, but its root is a lie and will lead to our destruction as believers. Many of us think that we cannot be deceived, but the Bible says that many will be deceived.
Deception is for those who know some level of truth, but not the complete truth. Deception fills in what you don’t understand or takes what is usually misunderstood and taints it with falsehood. Deception looks for existing error, calls attention to it, and because people don’t understand the topic, they will then follow the deceptive doctrine leading to their demise.
Deception takes truth and mixes it with a lie in such a way that it blends in, and you aren’t able to tell which color ends where. Deception understands the spectrum - too far right and you're red, too far left and you're light pink. So, deception stays in the middle, never too bright and never too light.
This, children of God, is why we must be like the Bereans. Search the Scripture to see if it is true. Listen to your favorite pastor, prophet, or sermon, and go back and search the Scripture. The Holy Spirit will and can lead you to all truth. Sharpen your discernment through the daily washing of the Word of Truth.
There has never been a time in history where we as believers actually had to set our eyes on the Word daily such as now. The deception has already infiltrated the pulpits, and we as children of God have to now, like no other time in history, be like the Bereans. Read your Bibles.
“That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,” Ephesians 5:26 NKJV.
