What is Holiness?
Holiness is a state of being whole. being one with one intention: to serve and worship Jesus only. It means being single-minded and unshakeable in your belief that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God; that He died on the cross and rose on the third day. Because of that, you now have a relationship with Him that, through the help of the Holy Spirit, enables you to live a holy life. You must believe that Jesus is the blueprint, and as He lived, we too should live.
I know most believers think that holiness is an Old Testament belief, but this is not true. Living a holy life is a New Testament belief as well. We are to live as Jesus did, do what Jesus did, and behave as Jesus behaved ,we are formed in His image, after all.
You see, the world is filled with duplicity. We as believers have been deceived into thinking that we will see the face of God while living duplicitous lives. This is the deception of our time: “Live how you want… because grace.” But Romans 13:14 says, “We must put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.” This is wholeness. This is a call to holiness. Holiness is seeking only to do the will of God. Having conduct that reflects who you are wearing as an image bearer.
As believers, we can't put on Jesus and the world. We can't be lukewarm. The line should always be clear.
That is not to say we have permission to judge. No, we have permission to pray. We have permission to live in such a way that others, through our conduct, are drawn to Jesus. Jesus is love. Jesus is the truth. Jesus is the way and the life. Love does not withhold truth from those who need to hear it.
Yes, I know we as believers often make Jesus seem repulsive to unbelievers because of our conduct and the fact that we want to be the salt that stays in the cabinet, sticking to ourselves, never sitting and listening to others’ stories, only seeking to interact with those who have no need for a doctor.
I must remind you: you are the salt. You are needed in rooms to push away decay. Have you noticed how, when you put salt on your steak, it doesn't run to other areas or move where it wants? Where you sprinkle the salt, it stays. It flavors. It brings out the juices. It stops the steak from rotting,it acts as a curing agent.
That is salt.
When a believer is in a setting where sin is prevalent, your holy conduct can influence the atmosphere. That is why we are to remain holy: to draw others to Christ, to purify environments, to fertilize the land (your office), and to keep away decay. How we live is a ministry in and of itself. Many people reject Jesus because of our duplicitous behavior and it’s time to change.
Yes, the journey to holiness is not easy, but it’s important, because it draws a harvest on its own. Choose holiness. Your conduct can win souls for Christ.
Once you choose holiness, you will face attacks. The enemy hates it when we choose holiness. Friends will turn their backs on you. You won’t get invited to parties. They’ll start having group chats without you. It sucks , I know. But during this time, God will teach you how to handle rejection. You are necessary where you are sprinkled. Remain where you are, and don’t allow offense to make you duplicitous. It’s a trap!
This journey will bring you to your knees often. You’ll literally feel your flesh dying. Run to Jesus to get your release. Run to our Dad.
Remember ,they rejected Jesus, and you are wearing Him.God is good, even in the storm..
